DesignTek Air Induction Kit Y-System + Carbon Cover for Porsche 997 MKII Carrera C2/4

DesignTek has furthered their cold air intake kit for the Porsche 997.2 Carrera with a fully enclosed carbon fiber air box to eliminate any hot engine heat that may get sucked into the air filters. The carbon fiber air box is designed to mate up with the lower aluminum tray. It creates a full seal which leave the K&N air filters exposed only to the ram air induction from the air ducts of the deck lid. The hand laid carbon fiber air box features a glossy coat. This intake box is not something you can measure additional performance by a dyno, but in real world conditions and track use. This intake box is great for those wanting to get the most volume of cold air into their intake system without worrying about heat soak from a hot engine.

DesignTek cold air intake kit is for the Porsche Carrera and Carrera S DFI car from 09 and up. It is made from 6061 aluminum and features a CNC machined Mass Air Flow sensor mount. It features a Y design which places a K&N cone filter under each of the rear wing air duct tubes to give you a true ram air design while under driving conditions. The aluminum is extremely lightweight weight and does not conduct heat such as stainless steel. Each Y intake pipe is powder coated to further insulate it from engine heat. Inside the intake tube at the Y split is a deflector which forces the airflow to go up from each side directly into the throttle body without creating any additional turbulence. The intake is a direct OEM replacement featuring a 3.5 inch diameter neck with AP silicone coupler to attach to the throttle body. The remainder of the intake tube is all 3 inch and TIG welded. The intake sits in the engine bay with an aluminum tray keeping the intake separated from the engine. This tray is powder coated black for a stealthy appearance.

As tested on a Mustang Dyno, our subject car was a 2009 PDK 997.2 Carrera running on 91 octane in an ambient temperature of 95F. The car baselined at 291rwhp and 249ft/lbs of torque. After the intake was installed, it dynoed at 305rwhp and 258ft/lbs of torque for a gain of 14rwhp and 9ft/lbs of torque. The Mustang dyno has a 15% drive train loss, so the crank horsepower gain is 16bhp. The intake pipe is available in several different colors to enhance your engine bay style. This cold air intake works with all 2009+ DFI Porsche 997.2 Carrera and Carrera S cars.

Porsche’s new DFI (Direct Fuel Injection) intake is a totally and completely redesigned intake system developed to deliver improved performance, fuel consumption and emissions by optimizing the air fuel mixture directly inside the combustion chamber.

The DFI Porsche engine package is a finely tuned performance machine and additional power has proved difficult to find. The unique design of Porsche’s new DFI intake system posed very challenging tuning hurdles but once again IPD developed a design that out performs the factory intake system without compromising reliability and drive-ability.

This innovative and revolutionary IPD DFI Intake Plenum employs the patented “Y” design as well as an enlarged plenum area that allows for improved intake air speed and velocity resulting in performance increases without any loses in power.

The all new specifically designed IPD 3.6L DFI intake Plenum is a direct bolt-on upgrade that replaces the factory air distributor and utilizes all pre-existing factory hardware including the OE factory throttle body.

The improved IPD intake design creates increased air velocity and air speed resulting in impressive power and torque gains for Porsche driving enthusiast.

The superior design of the DFI IPD Plenum provides an additional 14 horsepower at the wheels. Unlike previous naturally aspirated IPD plenums that delivered stronger gains in the mid range, the new IPD DFI Plenums deliver a similar shaped power curve as the factory but are considerably stronger from the mid range to redline without any power loses down low.

Installation of the new IPD 3.6L DFI Plenum is relatively straight forward and can be installed by mechanically inclined DIY customers although IPD strongly recommends installation be performed by a trained and qualified Porsche technician.

BMC air filters are designed and produced to ensure a higher air flow than original paper filters. In F1, for example, BMC cotton filters minimize the loss of air flow pressure passing through the air filter; this way ensures the best conditions for full exploitation of maximum power. Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident.

DESIGN AND MATERIALS
Qualified engineers using advanced software and expert technicians using the latest technologies produce BMC air filters. An F1 filter must be very light, must be made of the best raw materials and must improve performance. For this reason we use only alloy mesh with epoxy coating to ensure protection from petrol fumes and from oxidization due to the humidity of the air. The filtering material is composed of a special cotton gauze soaked with low-viscosity oil to give you the best air permeability.

In fuel injected engines, the throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine, in response to driver accelerator pedal input in the main. The throttle body is usually located between the air filter box and the intake manifold, and it is usually attached to, or near, the mass airflow sensor.

The largest piece inside the throttle body is the throttle plate, which is a butterfly valve that regulates the airflow. Have a larger diameter throttle body produces more air flow with equals more power. The upgrades should be used in conjunction with the competition plenums.
