DesignTek Air Induction Kit Y-System

The 2009 and up Porsche Carrera DFI car is extremely impressive with the power it makes for both the PDK and 6speed cars. As proven time and time again both on the track and our dyno, cold air intakes work. DesignTek’s newest cold air intake kit is for the Porsche Carrera and Carrera S DFI car from 09 and up. It is made from 6061 aluminum and features a CNC machined Mass Air Flow sensor mount. It features a Y design which places a K&N cone filter under each of the rear wing air duct tubes to give you a true ram air design while under driving conditions.

The aluminum is extremely lightweight weight and does not conduct heat such as stainless steel. Each Y intake pipe is powder coated to further insulate it from engine heat. Inside the intake tube at the Y split is a deflector which forces the airflow to go up from each side directly into the throttle body without creating any additional turbulence. The intake is a direct OEM replacement featuring a 3.5 inch diameter neck with DesignTek silicone coupler to attach to the throttle body. The remainder of the intake tube is all 3 inch and TIG welded. The intake sits in the engine bay with an aluminum tray keeping the intake separated from the engine. This tray is powder coated black for a stealthy appearance.

As tested on a Mustang Dyno, our subject car was a 2009 PDK 997.2 Carrera running on 91 octane in an ambient temperature of 95F. The car baselined at 291rwhp and 249ft/lbs of torque. It dynoed at 305rwhp and 258ft/lbs of torque for a gain of 14rwhp and 9ft/lbs of torque after the intake was installed. The Mustang dyno has a 15% drive train loss, so the crank horsepower gain is 16bhp. This cold air intake works with all 2009+ DFI Porsche 997.2 Carrera and Carrera S cars.

DesignTek has furthered their cold air intake kit for the Porsche 997.2 Carrera with a fully enclosed carbon fiber air box to eliminate any hot engine heat that may get sucked into the air filters. The carbon fiber air box is designed to mate up with the lower aluminum tray. It creates a full seal which leave the K&N air filters exposed only to the ram air induction from the air ducts of the deck lid. The hand laid carbon fiber air box features a glossy coat. This intake box is not something you can measure additional performance by a dyno, but in real world conditions and track use. This intake box is great for those wanting to get the most volume of cold air into their intake system without worrying about heat soak from a hot engine.

Race Plenum and Throttle Body Porsche 997 Turbo 07-09

Adding bolt-on horsepower to the 997 Turbo is a continuous quest by many enthusiasts looking for more power. Reverting back to old tuning technologies, Agency Power has developed a larger throttle body and plenum kit for the Porsche 997 Turbo to gain added performance. The point of a larger throttle body is to get in more air.

The more air you bring in, the more power you make. The 997 Turbo's engine intake system works off pulses, so how that air is diverted to either side of the engine is not as important as the volume incoming. The plenum kit includes an OEM Porsche Cayenne Turbo throttle body (part# 94860511503) which is a direct bolt on and plug in for the electronic throttle control with no modifications needed.

This throttle body has a 77.64mm inner diameter compared to the stock one of 75.64mm. We chose to go with this smaller diameter throttle body to give the car more low end horsepower and torque. If the diameter of the throttle body is to big, it will increase turbo lag and performance gains will only be made at the mid to top end RPM range. Since most 997 Turbo users drive their car on the street and track, we developed this product to substantially increase throttle response and improve "usable" power.

The Agency Power plenum kit is made using high quality 6061 aluminum that has been TIG welded and pressure tested in a T shape to mimic the OEM design. The CNC machined 4 bolt throttle body flange features a groove to accompany a rubber o-ring to ensure a secure and sealed fit with the OEM Porsche Cayenne throttle body. The T plenum features the necessary fittings for stock vacuum hoses and breather lines and includes a 1 way check valve needed. Each T plenum is powder coated gloss black for an OEM look and includes new silicone couplers in black and worm clamps to secure it to the factory intake manifolds. The installation of the plenum requires removal of the factory airbox and Y pipe to access the component.

Installation of the Agency Power plenum kit DOES NOT require the ECU to be flashed. The factory ECU will adjust accordingly to the change in throttle body diameter. However, corresponding mods including an ECU flash will only bring out additional power. As it stands alone, the plenum kit will add a bolt on 20 wheel horsepower to your Porsche 997 Turbo. As tested on a VR700 kit, the plenum added nearly 45 horsepower and 60 ft/lbs of torque. Splitting and diverting the air flow and directing it towards the cylinders at a much higher air speed.

Recommended installation time is approximately 3 hours.

HP Gains: 40-45Bhp. 60 ft/lbs of torque

The factory Y pipe becomes restrictive when adding substantial power gains. The IPD “Y” Pipe has larger inlets and an optimized diversion area allowing for even greater power gains. The patented IPD Plenum design works exceptionally well with all forced induction applications and the 997 Turbo is no exception. Power and torque increases provided by the IPD plenum are impressive and stay over and above all factory power curves from launch to redline. Maximum power increases take place in the midrange where it's most needed and most critical.

Maximum horsepower gains range from 30 to 35 depending on vehicle condition and pre-existing mods. Unlike the 996 Turbo the 997 Turbo requires an “adaptation” period that can be fully realized with either a series of hard pulls on the dyno or 10 to 50 miles of hard driving which of course IPD recommends only be performed on a closed circuit race track.

The 997 Turbo has an extremely sensitive ECU/DME making it prone to external environmental corrections so it is imperative that proper, adequate and consistent cooling be available when you dyno any of the 997 Turbos to get accurate and reliable dyno figures both before and after each test.

Installation of all Turbo Plenums is highly recommended to be performed by qualified and trained Porsche technicians.

Turbo customers looking to increase engine power without pushing the motorsport envelope to redline would best benefit from the 74mm IPD Turbo Plenum.

This version of the 997 Turbo plenum utilizes the factory 74mm throttle body and delivers impressive performance gains for both stock and slightly modified Turbos with exhaust and software.

In fuel injected engines, the throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine, in response to driver accelerator pedal input in the main. The throttle body is usually located between the air filter box and the intake manifold, and it is usually attached to, or near, the mass airflow sensor.

The largest piece inside the throttle body is the throttle plate, which is a butterfly valve that regulates the airflow. Have a larger diameter throttle body produces more air flow with equals more power. The upgrades should be used in conjunction with the competition plenums.
