New Perma Tune Gen 6

Fits:
Porsche 911 1965-77
Porsche 914/6

Disclaimer: Before fitting this CDI unit please make sure the new PERMA TUNE coil is being fitted with it. Do not try to start the car with Blue Bosch coil made in Brazil. This will damage the Perma-Tune CDI box and void the warranty. If CDI unit was not purchased with the PERMA TUNE coil the warranty will not be respected. Fitting with other brand coils at your own risk.

The Gen 6 Premium Perma-Tune CDI module makes diagnostics easier by providing onboard diagnostics that are automatically displayed by two coloured LED function lights.
These LED lights assist in diagnosing both the ignition module and the car. The green LED is a status indicator that can flash diagnostic fault codes. The red LED is a strobe light that flashes each time the coils fires in the same manner as a timing light which is especially useful for detecting engine misfire.
The LED function lights are mounted in the harness electrical connector and can only be seen with a mirror while the module is powered up.
As an additional feature of the Perma-Tune Premium module, there are three self-resetting overload protectors that protect your Perma-Tune and your car from overload damage. The overload protectors are hidden underneath the ignition module so they do not spoil the original look of the part.

The Premium ignition module features a die cast housing that has been treated to mimic the patina of the original aluminum die cast distributor and has a range of digital features that the Basic module does not have. The Premium module provides full control over RPM limit, mechanical advance timing, power output, multi spark function and has many other features that can be programmed using a computer, tablet or smart phone. The 911906 comes preprogrammed for the Porsche 911 so programming changes are optional. The programmable mechanical advance feature is very handy for restoring a distributor advance curve that has been distorted by worn mechanical parts without having to replace the weights and springs. Scroll down for more complete information about your programming options.

DISTRIBUTOR TRIGGER SIGNAL

The second most common cause of SC engine ignition failure is the ignition trigger circuit.
Since the ignition box is controlled by the magnetic pulse generator located inside the distributor, any disruption in the triggering signal will cause the ignition box to malfunction. Be aware that the connectors can push back in the housing. Pull the rubber boot back to inspect the connection between the box and harness.
Full disassembly and inspection of the distributor is highly recommended due to the intermittent nature of triggering problems. Pay special attention to the distributor trigger shielded cable ( green wire ), magnetic pulse generator magnet and magnetic pulse generator winding connection as these parts are known to fail in combination. An especially common problem is a broken magnet pole. Evidence of arching between the magnetic pulse generator magnet points indicates a defective rotor. In this case replace the rotor, magnetic pulse winding, green wire and ignition box. The Perma-Tune high performance triggering is so accurate that worn out distributor shaft bearings can be detected by the tachometer. This is indicated by the tachometer needle slightly bouncing at idle. Trigger signal problems can cause double triggering which results in a weak ignition spark. Due to the lower triggering resolution of the stock ignition box, some symptoms of trigger signal problems can be more evident after the Perma-Tune is installed. Refer to the vehicle maintenance manual for triggering signal wave form specifications and distributor repair instructions.
To quickly test the triggering circuit without the use of an oscilloscope: Unplug the harness connector from the ignition box. Refer to the 911SC Installation Instructions diagram, connect an Ohm meter between pins 3 and 6 of the harness connector. To prevent the possibility of misdiagnosis, tug on the green triggering signal wire located at the base of the distributor while viewing the meter. The published specification for the magnetic pulse generator is 600 Ohms +- 100. Our experience has shown that a variation of +- 25 Ohm indicates a need to repair defective connections or to replace the magnetic pulse generator windings.

Perma-Tune Gen 6

Fits:
Porsche 911 1965-77
Porsche 914/6

Take your pick: Basic or Premium

The Gen 6 Perma-Tune comes in two models: the Model Premium ignition module and the Basic ignition module.

The Basic model is just that, basic: it performs only the same functions as the analog modules did back in the day. For the average street car, this may be all that is desired and of course is more affordable than the Premium model.
It is however still a high performance part and is perfect for racing venues that do not allow programmable digital ignition systems. The Basic model has a smooth, more original looking housing than the Gen 5 cast housing.

This Model range is the first of the Gen 6 product line from Perma-Tune.
We have combined our accumulated knowledge of Porsche ignition over the last 48 years and applied it to the very latest electronics technology to produce a state of the art electronic ignition module
that is period correct looking. Made to look like an old school electrical relay, it blends right into the engine bay of the 914/6

NO CRIMPS, NO MESS, NO HEADACHES
Plug and play features eliminate the need for wire crimps and complicated wiring diagrams. Wires are cut and stripped, then inserted into the wire bus for a secure, plug in connection
without the need for special tools or wire crimps.

Simple, four wire installation. There is no need to interpret complicated wiring diagrams, the terminals are clearly marked so you know exactly where each wire goes.

NO DIALS, NO SWITCHES, NO PROBLEMS
Installation is easy. There are no dials to turn, no switches to set and no chips to plug in. The 914906 Perma-Tune comes to you pre programmed and ready to be installed on the 914/6.
You can always customise the module later using your wireless device to make secure, reliable configuration changes through the built in Bluetooth connection.

STRONG, YET FORGIVING
The Perma-Tune ignition module features on board diagnostics to help you install the module. The built in strobe light can help you check your ignition timing.
It also has self resetting overload protection so there are no fuses to replace.

SMART CONNECTIONS
Use any kind of distributor you have. The Points distributor connection will work with breaker points or any aftermarket distributor.

The tachometer output connection is universal and will work with the stock tachometer or aftermarket electronic tachometer, shift light and RPM switch.

Power connects to 12 Volt system
